Media Desk - Latest update about the film "Malta George Cross"
A local Maltese film - Malta George Cross, a film by Latina Pictures,
directed by Winston Azzopardi and presented by San Andrea School was
short-listed and is being shown for Screening Club as part of the
Cinekid Festival, being held this weekend in the Netherlands.
Cinekid Festival, celebrating its 20th edition this year, is an annual
Film, Television and New Media Festival for Children that is held in
Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Every year during the autumn break more
than 30,000 children are given an opportunity to attend one or more of
the 200 media productions that Cinekid presents: feature films,
children's documentaries, short films, animations, TV series and
single plays, cross-media productions, interactive installations and
set-ups and workshops. The main festival is held in Amsterdam, but
approximately 30 satellite festivals are held in cities all over the
Netherlands.
The ScreeningClub is Cinekid's screening facility that provides a
sheltered environment where informative exchanges and business
transactions can take place. An international selection of the latest
and best film and media productions for children (with English
subtitles) is provided. Over 250 productions, including virtually the
entire festival programme and new Dutch productions, can be screened
by professionals from all over the world. Participants include
buyers, sales agents, programmers and distributors.
Film Synopsis:
This documentary deals with the harsh realities of World War II as
seen in the eyes of a child who recalls hardships, poverty,
friendships and death. Shot in several period key locations in Malta
intertwined with real World War II footage, "Malta George Cross"
reveals this perspective within a historical context coloured with a
human touch. The director and the school hope that the audience
manages to teleport back to the forties guided all the way with the
help of this child who now passionately recalls every single detail.
